JOB PURPOSE
We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Debt Recovery Paralegal to join our Debt and Asset Recovery Team based in Glasgow.
Our Debt & Asset Recovery team offers a comprehensive service in all areas of commercial and consumer debt recovery with a distinct focus on the efficiency and quality of our service with careful regard to reputation protection. We specialise in the recovery of debts, vehicles and other assets for clients and for the Firm, utilising a case management system and other procedures.
In this role, you will be providing a debt and asset recovery service for clients utilising our case management system and other processes. You will be tasked with raising court actions for recovery of money and/or return of goods, obtaining undefended decree and instructing diligence thereafter. A confident, personable and understanding telephone manner is essential, as is the ability to build rapport with clients and third parties.
CORE TASKS
- Liaising with clients regarding sums due to them and advising on the available options and costs.
- Managing your own caseload using a case management system.
- Regular contact with clients, customers and third parties by telephone, email and general correspondence.
- Dealing with undefended court actions in the sheriff court for recovery of money and/or assets via Simple Procedure, Summary Cause and Ordinary actions as appropriate.
- Instructing diligence, sheriff officers, other solicitors, investigation agents and insolvency practitioners.
- Preparation of bankruptcy and liquidation petitions.
- All administrative tasks in connection with debt recovery including preparing fee notes, producing reports and statistics and conflict checking.
- Comply with firm's time recording policy.
- Be aware of Brodies’ information security policies, and protect information assets from unauthorised access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference at all times.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral
- Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of Scottish debt recovery procedures and methods of enforcement.
- Ideally candidates will have knowledge of the Visualfiles case management system.
- Works effectively with other team members.
- Takes responsibility for their own caseload subject to supervision.
- Used to managing a high volume of claims.
- Maintains regular contact with the clients and shows understanding of the priorities for the client.
- Communicates in a confident, clear and relaxed way.
- The ability to prioritise work is essential.
