Associate or Senior Associate (6+PQE) – Real Estate, Commercial Property

JOB PURPOSE
We have an opportunity for an Associate or Senior Associate to join the Real Estate practice, working on market leading Scots law investment and development transactions in sectors including offices, industrial, retail and the Living Sector.
The role will be based in Glasgow and will involve working across teams based in Glasgow and Edinburgh, and will include having a vital role in major projects and high value cross border deals, and running your own independent transactions for Scottish and London based clients active in Scotland. Some of the work you will be involved in includes:
- Acting for private equity and listed Funds, High Net Worth Individuals, UK Institutions and overseas investors in the sale and acquisition of investment properties in Scotland
- Asset management work on high profile properties, including lettings and advising on lease re-gears and variations, and ancillary documentation
- Acting in the acquisition and sale of shopping centres, retail parks and high value High St retail
- Acting on the Scottish real estate elements of corporate acquisitions, including inputting into Share Purchase Agreements for UK and international clients
- Acting for traditional and new lenders in high value financings across various real estate sectors
- Acting on the sale, purchase, ongoing management and funding of student accommodation projects throughout Scotland for UK and international institutional funds and private equity clients
- Working alongside City and US law firms on the Scottish end of UK wide or pan-European property portfolio acquisitions and disposals.
CORE TASKS
- Working with, and supported by, other Senior Associates and Solicitors as part of the 'team' and working closely with our banking, corporate, planning and construction teams
- Shaping commercial solutions to problems and helping deliver transactions on time
- Title examination, lease reporting and negotiation of sale and purchase contracts
- Drafting and negotiating leases of prime office, industrial and retail properties, acting primarily for landlords/investors
- Asset management including dealing with letting documentation and re-gears, in respect of industrial, retail and office properties
- Working with English and US law firms in cross border deals, reporting to them or directly to their clients
- Advising on Purpose Built Student Accommodation schemes
- Working alongside and helping lead junior lawyers
- Harnessing IT to deliver work as efficiently as possible
- Be aware of Brodies’ information security policies, and protect information assets from unauthorised access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference at all times.
PERSON SPECIFICATION & SKILLS
- Experienced in Scottish real estate transactions and sound understanding of Scots real estate law
- Takes a pragmatic and commercial approach to transactions
- Strong focus on client service and delivery
- Interest and enthusiasm for the property industry
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong written and oral communication skills for direct client contact and working with colleagues in other disciplines across the firm
- Keen to spot opportunities to develop business
