JOB TITLE

Practice Development Lawyer (5 + PQE) – Corporate Tax & Incentives  

We would consider requests for flexible / part time working. 

Preferably, the role would be carried out in either Edinburgh or Glasgow, travel will be required to other offices to meet business needs. However, flexible working arrangements will be considered including remote working.

JOB PURPOSE

To provide professional support to the Corporate Tax & Incentives (CTI) practice area covering corporate tax, real estate tax, employment tax and other commercial tax issues. The role will include some of the following responsibilities. 

CORE TASKS

  • Managing and updating the CTI knowledge bank for styles, standard tax documents, practice notes and training materials. 
  • Collating, co-ordinating and supporting the drafting and implementation of new tax styles and tax clauses in corporate/real estate/employment styles, including automated styles.
  • Monitoring, reviewing and updating existing styles/standard tax clauses and incorporating new negotiation points.
  • Providing support to lawyers on the use of styles/standard CTI documents/clauses.
  • Collating, distilling and publishing knowhow and developing knowhow toolkits for uploading to the CTI knowledge bank.
  • Monitoring legislative change, tax authority practice, market developments and case law in respect of relevant tax issues and how those might impact on our practice, style/standard documents and knowhow materials.
  • Co-ordinating and preparing responses to government consultations on tax issues relevant to the practice.
  • Assisting with the provision of ad hoc briefings to CTI team and wider practice areas on matters of interest relating to tax.
  • In collaboration with CTI team members, preparing business development materials relating to relevant technical tax issues, preparing seminars for clients and supporting any customised client-facing training or presentation.
  • Assisting with the development and delivery of tax training for lawyers (both within CTI team and other practice areas) at every level of qualification.  
  • Assisting with technical queries from the CTI team.  
  • Identifying opportunities to improve process and ways of working to deliver increased efficiencies and improved client service delivery.
  • Participating in our firm-wide knowledge management and training group and collaborating, where appropriate, with other PDLs and senior team members from other practice areas.
  • Being aware of Brodies’ information security policies, and protect information assets from unauthorised access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference at all times.

  • Experience of the usual suite of corporate/real estate/employment tax styles, precedents and transaction documents.
